Avalon Web of Magic: Circles in the Stream
Published in Audio CD by Listening Library (May, 2002)
Authors: Shelly Roberts and Mandy Moore
Average review score:

The first book in an enchanting new fantasy series.
After her parents divorced, twelve-year-old Emily left her Colorado home to move to a small Pennsylvania town with her mother. Pennsylvania is so different from the western mountains, where she had lived her entire life. Emily has no friends in her new town and spends her days helping her mother, a veterinarian, at their kennel and animal hospital. A horribly wounded animal with strange burns is brought to Emily's mother by a sullen, unfriendly girl who lives in the woods at an old animal preserve. While walking the dogs at the kennel, Emily stumbles upon the preserve, and a magical glade full of beautiful plants and animals. She also meets the girl, Adriane, and discovers she's not so bad after all. They meet a talking ferret named Ozzie who has come to this world to find the three humans who can help save the creatures of his world. Unfortunately, it seems as if the third human may be the mayor's snobby daughter, Kara. Emily and Adriane will have to put their dislike of Kara aside to save this magical place. This was the first book in an enchanting new fantasy series. I can't wait to read the next book once it is released.

Cry of the Wolf (Avalon Web of Magic, 3)
Published in Paperback by Client Distribution Services (August, 2003)
Author: Rachel Roberts
Average review score:

This is a must for fantasy lovers!
All I can say is wow.
Rachel Roberts has created a fantastic fantasy story, weaving it together from the last two books in the Avalon: Web of Magic series, Circles in the Stream and All that Glitters. each one features an exciting climax and interesting writing style that bring the charecters of this book into real personalities and real life.
Three girls, three powers, three mages, three unique talents. Emily Fletcher, Adriane Charyde, and Kara Davies are three girls who coundn't be more different- or the same.
Emily is a animal- crazy redhead, who has a fun nature and a love of pets. Her mom owns a vet clinic, and Emily likes to help out there for fun. She also gives her mom a hand in the Pet Palace, an animal hotel, and it was three dogs, Jellybean, Biscit, and I forget the third one's name, who first lead her to the Ravenswood preserve. Emily posses a special healing magic that makes her a favorite among the creatures at the Ravenswood Preserve. Emily and her mom just moved there, so Emily hasn't made any friends yet.
Adriane is a spunky, modern girl who doesn't have any friends. She never wears anything but black, and her parents are artists that travel around the world, so she lives with her grandmother, who is the caretaker of a wildlife preserve. Adriane is the first of the three to discover the animals and the secret of the magic. She is granted with the title of "warrior' and, indeed, is strong and brave. Adriane is bonded with a lone mistwolf, Stormbringer. She is really lonely on the large peice of land which is her home.
Kara Davies is spoiled, rude, and popular, a "barbie" in Adriane's words. She is the mayor's daughter, and is interested in fashion, clothes, phones, and boys. She is caught between her popular friends, and Emily, because she Adriane don't get along very well. Her title in the blazing star, and she doesnt have a power yet. Even though the magic likes her and reaches her, she still thinks she's better than Adriane and Emily. Her ideas for the preserve are good, though, and help alot.
An elf that's been transformed into a ferret, Ozzie, is sent by fairymentals from another world, Aldenmoor, to find three human mages. He helps them discover a portal, a path between the two worlds. There goal is to live in a place called Avalon, peacfully, away from the dark sorceress who will spread the black fire and kill all in Aldenmoor.
Stormbringer, Adriane's wolf, is the last of her kind. But soon she learnd there are more mistwolves in Aldenmoor, and joins them.
Adriane is heartbroken, but she can understand her friend's decision. So secretly, she follows Stormbringer through the portal to Aldenmoor, and is amazed by what she sees. She meets a young boy, Zach, and his griffen. Her adventures never end in Aldenmoor, but soon they might- her magic lets her meet up with the dark sorceress, and it may cost her her life.
Don't be suprised- this author isn't afraid to make anything happen to Adriane, anything.
Also- for those who love this series.... visit there website, its really cool!!!

cry of the wolf is tight!
This was my absolute favorite book of the series. Adriane is my favorie character of the girls.I love wolves, my walls are filled with pictures, Stormbringer is so cool. She is the best animal. I am still confused about what magical creature was Scorge? If anyone found that out e-mal me. Anyway,it was sad when Zachs best friend dies, I felt so bad. It was funny at the begining how Adriane thout that the egg was a dirty rock. The dragon sounded so cute! The tree house that Zach had was cool,I hope they make the series movies, I would buy all of them! So, the characters were so cool in every book, I can not wat to read#5 and #6! This is the best series. And the ending is so sweet. If I could I would give 10 stars to the whole series!

ThE BeSt!
I am like a major fan of this book series and they keep getting better and better. You wont beleive this book, its so awesome! my mom had to take it away from me to get me from stayin up all nite to read it! and my favorite characters, Adriane and Storm, are the stars! i luv these books soooo much!

Luke Ludd (Avalon Westerns)
Published in Hardcover by Avalon (October, 2002)
Author: D. J. Bishop
Average review score:

GREAT BOOK - A GREAT STORY
After seven long years away, Luke Ludd returns to the town where he grew up after receiving word that his father had been killed. He arrives back in Rising Star to find not only had his father been shot down in cold blood, but a man by the name of Maxwell Laughlin had ordered it done so he could take over the ranch and water that in time would surely give him control of the town and all the people in it. To make things even worse Laughlin had hired the five mean-spirited McKuen brothers with their fast guns to carry out his orders and to do away with anyone else who stood in his way. The pursuing gun battle leaves three of the McKuen's dead and Luke under the boardwalk of the barbershop near death with three bullet wounds in his body and what remained of the McKuens closing in. This is an Avalon Western, and like all Avalon books, it is suitable for the whole family to read.

FROM COVER TO COVER A REAL PAGE TURNER
WELL DEVELOPED
VERY CREATIVE
PACKED FULL OF ACTION
I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN
The book has a straight-line plot. The author's style is simple and straight forward. The book is a real 'page turner.' The focus of story is on action, situations, and events. Characterization focuses on several characters of different sexes whose lives are intertwined. There are memorable and important secondary characters. The ending wraps everything up.
The geographic setting(s) of the book: Texas.
The time period(s) of the book: Mid 1800's

Fantastic Reading
Luke Ludd by D.J. Bishop is must read western. It is a story of a famly and its strugle to stay together, and how in those days revenge was a must. Luke and Lorraine, Cork and his brother Elam, are examples of how families are suppose to be, and how they were the backbone of our country when a mans word was everything. The characters were strong and they stick with you. It is a real page turner I'm not a avid reader and I couldn't put this one down. This is my first western but if there are more like this one of D.J. Bishop's it won't be my last.

Fantastic!
I'm a teenager and i really enjoyed this book.It is a real page turner & I recommend people of all ages read it. Even if you dont like westerns, read it you will truly enjoy reading this book.It was written with taste that even a teenager could enjoy.

Avalon by Anya Seton
I read Avalon about six years ago, when I was sixteen. My mother read it twenty-seven years ago, about five years before I was born. That's how I came to be named Merewyn. I hated my name until I read Avalon. Merewyn is a cool character, and now I'm proud to be named Merewyn.

This book was wonderful
This book was amazing it enchanted me right from the start. There was never a time when i was bored, the story of a poor little cornish girl who doesn't know her own background is very moving in places and even funny sometimes, as Merewyn and Rumon search for thier love. Its a spectacular book and i don't understand why it is out of print. i'm just glad i got to it before it went out of print.

Reissue Anya Seton's Novels!
Just wanted to add my two cents... why doesn't some publisher reissue all of Anya Seton's novels? A couple of boxed sets would be nice... These are romances for thinking people -- well written, historically accurate, gripping, memorble. I would love to buy a set. I originally read library copies many years ago.

The Hydrogen Murder (Avalon Mystery)
Published in Hardcover by Thomas Bouregy & Co (24 December, 1997)
Author: Camille Minichino
Average review score:

A thinking person's mystery
Thank you, Camille Minichio, for providing a protagonist who is a real person. Gloria Lamerino may be a fictional character but she seemed real to me. In addition to providing the reader with a compelling character to care about, the author gives us a plot that forces scientific insight and propels a lazy reader into becoming a thinking person. I am looking forward to more stories about this female detective!

A Very Good Debut
With the exceptions of Marcia Muller and Sue Grafton, I seldom enjoy mysteries with female sleuths. I will now have to add Camille Minichino to the list of "must read" novels with female sleuths. I am a chemist so I was interested because Minichino uses the periodic table to name her novels. Gloria Lamerino is a retired physicist who has returned to her hometown Revere, Massachusetts from California. The scientific insight she brings in the novel kept it going for me, and the puzzle and resolution were very impressive. The other characters, Rose, Frank, Peter, and Matt are very well drawn and I will look forward to them in her next mystery. In the last chapter, Gloria says that she's not looking for a "helium murder", but since I already have a copy, I know there is one, and I am really looking forward to reading it, as well as the other periodic table mysteries.

A retired physicist takes on the murderers in Revere, MA
A unique contribution to the spate of books about female detectives by female authors. Minichino, herself a physicist, created Gloria Lamarino a retired physicist turned police consultant. All the elements are there for a "cozy." And they are shaped in a well plotted, three dimensional character study.

The Road to Avalon
Published in Paperback by Onyx Books (September, 1989)
Author: Joan Wolf
Average review score:

Riveting, surprising, romantic and exciting...
A highly interesting and surprising reimagining of the Arthurian legend, almost the exact opposite of Marion Zimmer Bradley's "The Mists of Avalon." In this version, there is no magic, and many of the characters are related to each other in unexpected ways (for example, Merlin is Igraine's father, while Morgan is Igraine's younger sister, instead of daughter. As a result, Morgan is Arthur's aunt, rather than half-sister.) The main focus here is on Morgan and Arthur's love for each other, which greatly alters the famous love triangle with Arthur, Gwenhyfar and Bedwyr (Lancelot.) Also, Mordred is no longer the evil usurper who plots to overthrow Arthur; here he is a basically goodhearted boy who lacks his father's kingly ambition and skills, and who is easily manipulated by his cruel brother Agravaine, with tragic consequences.

As a result of all this, "The Road to Avalon" always took me by surprise because so many aspects of the legend that I took for granted had been altered. I found it to be a refreshing and moving version, especially the love story between Morgan and Arthur, which is every bit as heartbreaking as the traditional Arthur-Gwenhyfar one is. While "The Mists of Avalon" remains the ultimate Arthurian novel for me, this one is not far behind it. As Publisher's Weekly says, "Joan Wolf is a master storyteller...portraying characters with crisp and memorable originality...capturing--and enriching--the tragic sweep of romance and idealism inherent in the Arthurian Tale." Read it

THE Best King Arthur Story !
I cannot say enough good things about this wonderful book. It is just too bad that it is out of print. I sincerely hope that some publisher would re-release this jewel of a book to the public again.

Out of all of the King Arthur stories that I have read, this is the one that really gets me emotionally involved with the characters. This is no usual Arthurian where there is magic and the battle between the good and evil. It is so much more realistic and the scenes are so vivid that you really feel that this could have happened in history.

Not only are the war scenes and the relationships between the characters memoreable- the love story between Morgan and Arthur is heart wrenching.

I really hope that somehow this story gets more attention. It truely deserves it.

An different view of Arthur
The Road to Avalon shows us a non fantasy version of the life of Arthur, showing us a more realistic portrayal of this mythical king. It is easy to see the author's knowledge of the legend, with the inclusions of people such as the monk Gildas and Culwch and Olwen. It gives us a completely different portrayal of Morgan and Mordred, and shows Arthur's unending love towards his friends. A great read! I fully recommend it. :-)

Cold Moon Honor (Avalon Career Romance)
Published in Hardcover by Thomas Bouregy & Co (February, 1998)
Author: Lauri Olsen

Sensitive Contemporary View of Native American Culture
From the moment the author introduced Tara Bartlett, I felt I knew this character. Following Tara in her search for her biological parents, the perils of her job as a game specialist, and her travels, was exciting and interesting. When Whitman Bull Chief enters her life, sparks fly! I loved everything about this book: the characters, the setting, the events. I also really liked the message in the book: respect and understanding of other cultures. This heroine is an excellent role model for all young women, and especially for Native American women. Great job, author!

Different...exciting...romantic!
This is a modern (contemporary) love story of an Indian woman and the man who wants to share her life. It introduces the reader to Indian customs and traditions and does so with dignity and interest. I was fascinated - I hated to have the story end!

Sensitive, beautiful love story
Terra Bartlett's journey to find her biological parents, and her journey to find herself before she can commit to the love of her life, is told with sensitivity and charm. The author either lived the Crow Indian culture or researched carefully. Whichever it is, I appreciated learning more about this group of Native Americans. Their culture, and their home in Montana, sounds wonderful!

Big Sky Dreams (Avalon Career Romance)
Published in Hardcover by Avalon (24 June, 1997)

Average review score:

A contemporary ranch romance with old-fashioned charm!
Eastern woman meets Western man, and the chemistry between Laura and Morgan is wonderful! Laura's move to Montana leaves her lonely and isolated. When she meets rancher Morgan Franklin, they disagree on almost everything. But eventually, they both realize the depth of their feelings. Along the way, we meet a joyful mix of Montana neighbors. I was sorry when this book ended; I wanted to stick around these people, it was such fun!

Portrays the modern West with humor and excitement
Morgan Franklin, a third-generation Montana rancher, battles low cattle prices, high taxes, and variable weather. But when Laura Carey steals his heart, he finds he's in for the battle of his life! Fiercely independent and stubbornly proud, Laura seeks her own way in the close-knit community. Their love story is filled with humor, G-rated smoldering, and color, set against the beautiful mountains of Montana. A great read!

Big Sky Dreams is so 'outstanding' Oprah should read it !
Greetings from Canada ! A friend in the book review department of a major Canadian newspaper sent me a 'review' copy of Big Sky Dreams. Lauri Olsen is writes in such a sensitive and majestic way as to make believe this woman is a remarkable 'new' author with a very bright future.....and I expect to see her on Oprah !

Published in Paperback by Apple (April, 2002)

Just as good as the others
This has got to be one of the best Avalon books yet. Emily now befriends a magical unicorn with musical magic and faces creepy harpies also wtih musical magic, destined to kill the unicorn. A story of friendship and a tale of a magical world, and an intruiging plot.

My favorite of the series
Ihave read all of the avalon books that have came out and this is probably my favorite. One reason is that the character that it mainly focuses on is my favorite character. it talks about Emily Fletcherk and how she and the rest of her group finds and saves a unicorn named Loraleigh. It's realy exiting and is full of adventure and comody. Not to mention it has a great story line.

This book Rocks!
I had to read a book for a reading project in school. I choose to read The Secret of the Unicorn(Avalon Web of Magic,4). I started to read the book and got really into it! I loved how Emily and the Unicorn had a magical conection! It was really tuching when Emily wouldn't give up the Unicorn! I love this book and recomend it to anyone who loves books!
